Post-Crowell House RESTORATION APPEAL

Post-Crowell House
RESTORATION APPEAL

Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society, 31 Bellport Lane Bellport, NY 11713
Dear Friends and Members,
The Post-Crowell House, one of the original Federal-style “Captain’s Houses” that exemplifies beautiful Bellport Lane, is in serious trouble. This extraordinary building, deeded to the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society in 1967 by Miss Florence Crowell, is the centerpiece of our holdings. But it requires immediate attention before winter arrives.

WE ASK FOR YOUR HELP

The increasingly harsh weather of the last few years has rapidly deteriorated Post-Crowell’s shingled roof, resulting in leaks that are undermining the stability of the structure. Fixing just the roof, though, is not enough, and we are now calling for estimates on a critical restoration. The Knapp-Swezey Foundation has provided a kickoff fund to jumpstart crucial immediate work, but we need further funding as soon as possible. For the past 57 years, BBHS has depended upon donors who value the richness of our historic buildings and the great beauty of the area. Our annual fundraising efforts go to support and maintain the 10 structures on our property. Yet the intake from these efforts is increasingly strained by rising costs and an aging campus. All that the Society has accomplished is a result of dedicated volunteers and assistance from people like you – and now, BBHS needs your continued support. When all of us contribute together, we can remain a strong and vibrant organization.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

We know you are approached by many worthy causes throughout the year but please remember that the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society’s mission is a local one that truly matters to the preservation of the community we love. Your “Restoration Appeal” gift will directly fund emergency repair to the Post-Crowell House and its future restoration. Your 100% tax-deductible donation not only preserves a unique historic structure but also the cultural inheritance of the community. We urge you to consider the largest gift you can, but also sincerely say that no gift is too small, and all donations are greatly appreciated.I am grateful for your interest and generosity and hope I can count on your support. Remember, the Post-Crowell House is at serious risk, and you can save it.

With many thanks,
