Dear Friends,
On Saturday night, June 4, the Historical Society opens the 2016 season with our annual Fundraising Cocktail Party and the premiere of FOWL PLAY, a show of astonishing portraits of … chickens!
The story? Actress Isabella Rossellini has a farm, and on that farm she has some chicks, as well as turkeys, sheep, bees, and fields of organic produce.
Six months ago she agreed to raise some chickens for her friends Francisco Costa (Women’s Creative Director, Calvin Klein Collection) and John DeStefano (Director, racing partnership Black Swan Stables.)
Soon 38 just-hatched fledglings arrived by mail in a cardboard box, downy and indistinguishable. But within two weeks they began to develop remarkable features because they were distinct breeds of endangered “heritage” stock: exotic chickens.
The amazing physical changes and social pecking order were so entertaining that Isabella asked renowned Brookhaven photographer Patrice Casanova to photograph the birds, which he did as if they were actors or models.
Be a part of this extraordinary evening, our most important event of the year, to see the delightful results. The “parents” of this flock are active participants in this exhibition and its programs.
BECOME A SPONSOR! We also encourage you to PLACE AN AD in our FOWL PLAY Exhibition Program. The show will remain on view through the end of July, and we anticipate tremendous interest in this magical show. *
Sincerely,
Kate Carmel, President
